marerit

the mara is an evil (mostly female) spirit that visits her victims at night. She sits upon them and extracts their life forced. Hence the word nightmare, "nachtmerrie". A person being plagued by such a mara was said to be marerit or ridden by the mare.

met je blad en knop, perfect groen
Stijgend in je open luchten, blauw
de rijke vrucht groeiend uit de bloem


Waes hael, vrouwe van de herfst
met je manden vol appels, rood gewangd
Gekroond in je ritselend loof, goud en rood
De bladeren tooiend in hun stervende nood


Waes hael, troost van de winter
met de warme wintercider, parelend in amber
Gezegen door je eeuwige vuur, zonnegeel
De bodem wachtend op nieuw zaad


Waes hael, dame van de appel
met je levensgave, blozend in groen en rood
Herbronnend in je zuiver water, helder en blauw
Het leven hernieuwd in lichaam en geest

A dark elf mage performing dark Seidr magic, The runes are of a set I developped myself, because i didn't want to use real runes for the language and words used in the painting. Intruiged? Just know that the runes are a combination of elder futhark and roman capital letters.
